Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Political party advertising plays a critical role in shaping voter preferences, especially during election periods. In Ankpa LGA, Kogi State, political parties have increasingly turned to advertising through various media platforms to influence voters’ decisions. Political advertising is designed to communicate the party's ideology, policies, and candidates to the electorate, with the goal of swaying voter opinions and garnering support. Studies by Oladipo and Bello (2023) have shown that political party advertising is effective in shaping public perception, particularly when it appeals to the values, interests, and needs of the target audience. This study aims to explore the impact of political party advertising on voter preferences in Ankpa LGA, focusing on how political ads influence voters' decisions and perceptions during elections.
